Marco Bitran: What a Beginner Should Look for in Personal Tennis Clothing and Equipment

By

Once you understand what is the correct and suitable personal attire for you to use, you are ready to embrace tennis training drills quicker. For example: What type of balls and shoes to use on certain court surfaces.

Learning the Different tennis court surfaces as a beginner means being aware of the bounce and flight speed with various types of tennis balls. For example a regular- duty felt ball is preferred on clay courts, while an extra- duty felt ball is popular on hardcourts.

TENNIS BALL: To maintain the perfect bounce of your balls, its best to keep them stored in sealed pressurized cans when not being used. A ball with a larger diameter than a standard tennis ball, is better suited for beginners, to aid in seeing the ball easily due to the slower flight path the larger ball takes.

TENNIS SHOE: Wearing the correct shoes is essential to your game's improvement and to remain injury-free. This is why the sport of tennis have their own unique tennis shoe style. Tennis shoes differ from conventional runners because of the constant lateral movement involved. The sole of a tennis shoe is purpose built to assist in this side-to-side movement.

TENNIS RACKET: To generalize, a racket that has a heavy frame will generate more power and vibrate less. A stiff framed racket has a greater sweet spot, although you will transfer the majority of the shock load to your arm, when hitting a ball. A flexible framed racket can decrease the shock load on your arms.

STRINGS: To decide on soft or tight tension of your tennis strings, will depend on your preferred choice of, if you want Power or Control. Soft tension gives you more Power, durability, feel and comfort. But the trade off is minimal control. With tight tension strings, you get maximum control only.

CLOTHING: The days of heavy cotton fabrics are fading. They are being replaced with light-weight breathable, even sweat resistant fabrics. These performance based shirts will keep players cooler, especially during long matches in direct sunlight. Nowadays men wear longer shorts and tighter body hugging shirts. Women these days are wearing tank tops and skirts. This allows you to move your limbs (arms and legs) backwards and forwards, side to side as well as any rotating motion in comfort and ease.

With some careful thought and planning you can quickly advance your learning ability when doing tennis drills or playing a game.

Marco Bitran: Tennis String Options and Information for the Summer Heat

Expert Author Eric Burke
By

Summer is by far my favorite time of the year. But for tennis strings summer is the worst time of the year. The hotter it is the quicker strings lose tension. As your strings become looser you have less control. Eventually you feel like you're hitting with a trampoline. Many shots you believe you have hit perfectly are out. I've always raised my tension as the temperature rises. For higher level players 2-3 pounds make a noticeable difference. But like everything else, string tension is a very individual choice. You may have to experiment a little before you find what works best for you.

There are strings that hold tension better than others. Polyester strings have become very popular in the U.S.

For the most part, they are very durable, spin enhancing, and control oriented. But they are notorious for how quickly they lose tension. The stiffer playing ones can also be pretty hard on the arm. I haven't found a poly string that holds tension for what I consider a long time. Here are a few that do better than most:

Genesis Black Magic is a softer playing polyester string with nice feel and power.

Genesis Twisted Razor is a sharp, 3-sided, twisted tennis string. Great spin enhancement.

Kirschbaum Spiky Shark is an 8-sided string that has a nice combination of feel, control, and spin enhancement.

For those of us who prefer strings with more feel, power, and comfort, durability can be an issue. That is not an issue with these strings:

Ashaway Mono Gut ZX is the string I play with when I'm not using natural gut. Along with great power and feel, Mono Gut ZX is very durable. The spin enhancement is a great bonus. There is no similar string available from any tennis string company.

Ashaway Dynamite is a rough textured multifilament. Great control and spin enhancement.

Gamma Live Wire XP is what I previously used when not playing with natural gut. Yes it's lively and powerful but what makes XP great is the Zyex outer wraps. Zyex gives XP a crisper more "gut like" feel. It also adds durability and helps with tension maintenance. (P.S. Zyex is the material used in Ashaway Mono Gut ZX and Dynamite)

Pro Supex Spiral Flex is a firmer but not stiff playing, solid core synthetic string. Good control and durability. This is a very nice string at a good price.

So although you may be a string breaking beast, there are plenty of durable strings available that won't break your arm. And ironically we just happen to have many of them at your friendly Hardcore Tennis store!

Marco Bitran: Ultimate Guide In Building Synthetic Tennis Courts

By

Today, synthetic tennis courts are rising in popularity because of their durability, practicality and convenience.

For athletes and sports enthusiasts who want a low maintenance court without compromising performance level, a synthetic court may be right for you - they can stand unpredictable weather and they can be used all-year round.

Sports, such as tennis, are usually played on natural grass, clay, and carpet surfaces. However, these courts are less preferred these days because they require high maintenance routines that are quite costly. Thus, tennis players go for synthetic playing surfaces to be able to enjoy their hobby without having to worry about the upkeeps.

Steps in Building Synthetic Tennis Courts

If you are fond of do-it-yourself activities, then tennis courts construction would not be a problem for you.

Having your very own synthetic tennis court will give you the opportunity to have fun with your family and friends, without the agony of high maintenance costs. Now, if you want to build your synthetic playing surface yourself, then the following steps can help you:

1. Plan and determine a strategic location. A standard tennis court measures 78-foot by 36-foot rectangle, which is big enough for singles and doubles games. So you should choose a huge, open location to make sure that your synthetic court can be accommodated.

2. Get rid of the old lawn by shoveling the grass, including 1 to 2 inches of top soil, then even the surface using a rake.

3. Spray the whole area with weed and grass killer to prevent unnecessary weeds from growing in your synthetic turf. And to add protection from unwanted plant and weed growth, you can cover the court surface with ground cloth, but be sure that it has the right measurements.

4. Scoop about 2 inches of fill dirt to the tennis court surface and smoothen it with a rake.

5. Place the synthetic turf securely. Some turfs come in large rolls while others are pre-cut into squares. Make sure that the entire court will be covered by the fake grass.

6. Pour the filler sand evenly from corner to corner of the court surface. You can then use a push broom to even the sand and rumple the synthetic turf.

7. Install your tennis net, which may be a portable tennis net system or a permanent one.

8. Invite your friends over to play a game of tennis and have fun!

Get Professional Help

Now, if you are not so skilful when it comes to installing structures, then it is best to ask for professional help from a reputable company. Look for a company that are knowledgeable and experienced with synthetic lawns, from planning to installation and their services and products are of high quality and worth every cent.

Marco Bitran: Tennis Acrylic Surfaces: How The Quality Of The Court Affects The Game

By

If you are an athlete or a regular sports enthusiast, then you can probably attest that the quality of a sports surface has a major impact on a game. This is true for most sports, including tennis. But for those who are not sports-oriented, the idea of a tennis court may just include a rectangular surface with specific measurements, a net and then you are good to go. However, whether you are using natural grass courts, tennis acrylic surfaces or synthetic tennis courts, one should also consider the materials being used and the properties of the court because the efficiency and quality of the tennis surface can affect the overall game.

Types of Tennis Courts

There are a lot of expert builders that can design and construct playing surfaces according to your needs. And with the advanced technology today, you can choose from different types of courts. Here are just some of them:

• Grass - These are the fastest type of tennis courts to install and they are made from natural grass that is evened out. The surface is more slippery than hard courts, causing the ball to slide instead of bounce. The bounce of the ball and the outcome of the game will sometimes depend on how often the grass is mowed. So grass courts are quite expensive to maintain, which includes frequent watering and mowing. And besides, these days owners prefer courts made from fake lawn or artificial turf because they are more practical and cost-effective.

• Clay - These courts are usually made from crushed shale or brick, plus rubber and plastics. They are cheaper to construct but the most costly when it comes to maintenance considering the surface is smooth and steady, which needs regular rolling. Clay courts produce high but slow ball bounce, favoring defensive players from the baseline.

• Acrylic or Hard - These courts are the most commonly used for tennis, which are made from concrete, asphalt or plastic. Tennis acrylic surfaces are gives slower performance of players than in grass tennis courts but they are faster compared to the clay ones. The bounce of the ball is more predictable and consistent, making the games more even-handed and fun. You do not even have to worry about regular up-keeps because all you need is a broom or blower to keep these synthetic playing surfaces clean.

Who Can Build Tennis Acrylic Surfaces?

There are numerous tennis court builders out there but you cannot determine the quality of each product. So, you need to look for a company who has the knowledge and skills in tennis court construction. Look for a company that has many years of experience when it comes to tennis acrylic surfaces, artificial turf and other synthetic grass products that you need.

Green Planet Grass is a specialist in installing artificial turf in Perth, and aims to provide top quality & durable tennis acrylic surfaces & artificial grass.
