Marco Bitran - Teaching Tennis Without a Tennis Court

Visualize this; a class with a racket for everyone, more than enough tennis balls, a rolled up blue mat that stands about 3 ½ feet tall, Colored tape, and the honor system. What do you have? You have guessed it right, a tennis court. Sadly, tennis has been neglected in physical education and the reason is not because the teacher isn't Roger Federer. The reason is also not because teachers can't walk and chew gum when it comes to tennis. Fact that tennis has been used for only schools that provide appropriate equipment and facilities is irrational. There is no excuse just because a school doesn't have a tennis court, or it's raining, or not enough gymnasium space to hold a group of students from practicing the art of a forehand stroke and performing tennis serves like Andy Roddick.

Tennis can be introduced to any student that has the cognitive and psychomotor ability to strike a long-handed implement (a tennis racket in layman's terms). The only thing stopping students from exceeding their maximum proficiency is one word; Improvisation. I said it, don't break down and shake your head.

Improvisation. Does it need to be repeated again? This term separates a quality teacher from an educated teacher. This term also exemplifies how a teacher can "think on their feet" and adjust to obstacles.

Picture a school's tennis courts where students trying to have a rally is non-existent, take the fence where students have more fun hitting home runs over then playing the actual game. Finally, take the kids that are sitting out waiting to get on a court because there is not enough courts to provide for a class. Now let focus and put this image in your mind; use a wall (yes a wall) where students can hit the tennis ball off it and what's this? The ball comes back to them? They can also see how they doing based on how the bounce comes back off the wall? That's preposterous. Picture two hockey sticks taped together suspended by two chairs at the end of the sticks. What do you have? A simulated tennis net. That's crazy though, why would someone ever want to tape two hockey sticks together and grab two chairs and make a net? The people that ask themselves that question don't have improvisation.

If this sounds crazy to you, let's have another visualization; college students-ages 18-23 year old adults playing tennis, but not on a tennis court. With rolled up blue mats, colored tape, and the honor system, and a wall, the sight of college students feeling like professionals in a teaching curriculum based environment where teachers used improvisation to create a tennis court, to teach tennis, and the fundamentals of tennis was remarkable. Stations incorporated in a gym where using continental, eastern, and western grips, along with forehand and backhand strokes hitting tennis balls against a wall aided to student's ability to learn and have fun. Yes, that word no one wants to do-fun. Guess what incentive was needed for college students to hit the tennis ball against wall and self-check themselves along with the teacher evaluating their form? The incentive was a hula-hoop. Look at that, just a hula-hoop taped up against the wall or multiple hula-hoops at different levels against a wall and college students were enjoying themselves. The best part about all this, there were no NO. 2 pencils needed and a scantron to test their knowledge about the sport. There were no tennis courts needed to practice the sport of tennis. Just a gymnasium and modified equipment.

Last image for your head, take those college students that were having fun and put in students in elementary and/or secondary education in that kind of environment, and there will be no need for a test on tennis. Those teachers that use improvisation understand that if they coordinate activities no matter what obstacles face them, students increase their pulse from resting pulse, practice the proper cues, and look like they're having fun, then behold, teaching tennis without a tennis court.

Marco Bitran: Get the Surface That You Want With Synthetic Tennis Courts

The typical homeowner spends approximately 40 hours annually when it comes to managing their lawn.

While it's true that plenty of gardening buffs find this endeavor particularly satisfying, most people would rather opt for a cost-effective alternative that will enable them to move on toward more pressing matters concerning their household or business. Of course, there are plenty of lawn care companies and professionals who will gladly deal with the maintenance and development aspects of these gardens, but the costs associated with these types of services are not feasible enough in the long run, which is especially the case for businesses. On the other hand, the residential as well as entrepreneurial public has found a viable alternative in the form of synthetic grass systems. For the those who don't have enough knowledge of the matter, artificial turf services generally do not deviate much from conventional lawns in terms of visual appearance and suitability to the environment, although a ton of benefits as well as inherent practical applications in diverse varieties of terrain gradually becomes apparent upon closer inspection. Concurrently, artificial grass is responsible for improving gardens and level fields for homes, commercial properties with wide open spaces in need of eco-friendly surroundings, as well as befitting backdrops for sports-related activities such as synthetic tennis courts.

Organizations who're interested in developing synthetic tennis courts for academic or business purposes won't find any shortage among the network of artificial grass suppliers and installers anytime soon. Capable of withstanding intense environmental conditions plus strenuous exertions between players, synthetic tennis courts ensure the utmost reliability, longevity, and require hardly the same level of frustrating maintenance that is quite common for conventional athletic fields. Synthetic grass systems often provide features and components that most often result in improvements upon traction as well as stability, bolstered with the integration of safe, pebble-like granules contained within the field's infill. These default shock absorbers are nestled below the field's surface simultaneously acting as a cushion for the tract's inhabitants as well as granting it a natural feel in the same way that natural lawns do. Moreover, synthetic grass surface is made up of polyethylene and subsequently features safety components such as water or sand cushions for sections of the turf that haven't been filled, making the artificial grass carpet far more durable.

Artificial grass tennis courts are rapidly becoming more appealing for dedicated players who are still interested in playing despite odd weather conditions like winter or intense heat around the summer days. These synthetic grass systems are built to last for 10-15 years if installed properly. Professionals tasked to do this usually introduce items such as shock pads, rubber granules, wear-and-tear resistant adhesive tapes, sand or water infill and other materials essential to generating an impressive tennis court made up of artificial turf materials.

Marco Bitran: Getting Started With Tennis Courts Construction

Concepts behind construction often conjure up images of complex, coordinated machines and manpower functioning in unison in order to accomplish undertakings typically concerning the development of architectural, infrastructural, and other various industrial projects. Reaction to these huge projects often range from reverent fascination to utter aversion, mostly determined by who benefits from the construction as well as who suffers the most. On the other hand, construction companies have been steadily developing innovative services for the development of tennis courts for known organisations as well as private groups.

Free from the double-edged hype that continually dogs straightforward property building procedures, tennis courts construction projects offer distinct designing as well as terrain and material modifications that still adhere to the standard dimensions of a tennis court whilst catering to their respective client's preferences.

Typically regarded as irrefutable law by tennis players, officials and avid spectators, the dimensions of these tennis courts construction areas should be in accordance with the established rules, mainly 70 feet in length, with an accompanying width of 27 feet. Suitable adjustments for the expanses will also be arranged so as to ensure the utmost convenience for players who are interested in competing for singles or doubles matches, done by implementing noticeable markers reminding individual players of the custom dimensions important during play (27 feet in width for the former while 36 feet is enough for the latter). The ever present services lines retain their positions at precisely 31 feet from the net. Tennis supporters likewise have an unspoken agreement attesting to the fact that most rational tennis courts should be constructed so as to steer clear from distracting sun glare. In contrast, a more liberal approach is being permitted for the construction of audience seats and spectator stadiums.

Aside from strict adherences pertaining to the development of the tennis courts construction dimensions, complicated plans are likewise being assessed prior to applying any definite materials to serve as the court's bulk surfaces. Hard courts, usually made up of asphalt and other concrete materials, are substantially covered with layered, texture inflected rubber coatings in order to provide safety regulated cushions for players as well as imparting further improved bouncing physics for the ball. Routine maintenance is subsequently being conducted with the help of blowers or brooms. In contrast, natural trimmed grass surfaces or perhaps economically efficient synthetic turf surfaces are preferred by other players or organizations. These divergent opinions concerning the standard surfaces for contrasting associations and players mostly stem from the fact that some active participants feel more at ease and in control on some accustomed courts more than others. Official tournaments and competitions dispense of these handicaps and consequently avoid churning out more arguments by filtering various proceedings of tennis games throughout various surfaces as the competition progresses.

Marco Bitran: What a Beginner Should Look for in Personal Tennis Clothing and Equipment

Once you understand what is the correct and suitable personal attire for you to use, you are ready to embrace tennis training drills quicker. For example: What type of balls and shoes to use on certain court surfaces.

Learning the Different tennis court surfaces as a beginner means being aware of the bounce and flight speed with various types of tennis balls. For example a regular- duty felt ball is preferred on clay courts, while an extra- duty felt ball is popular on hardcourts.

TENNIS BALL: To maintain the perfect bounce of your balls, its best to keep them stored in sealed pressurized cans when not being used. A ball with a larger diameter than a standard tennis ball, is better suited for beginners, to aid in seeing the ball easily due to the slower flight path the larger ball takes.

TENNIS SHOE: Wearing the correct shoes is essential to your game's improvement and to remain injury-free. This is why the sport of tennis have their own unique tennis shoe style. Tennis shoes differ from conventional runners because of the constant lateral movement involved. The sole of a tennis shoe is purpose built to assist in this side-to-side movement.

TENNIS RACKET: To generalize, a racket that has a heavy frame will generate more power and vibrate less. A stiff framed racket has a greater sweet spot, although you will transfer the majority of the shock load to your arm, when hitting a ball. A flexible framed racket can decrease the shock load on your arms.

STRINGS: To decide on soft or tight tension of your tennis strings, will depend on your preferred choice of, if you want Power or Control. Soft tension gives you more Power, durability, feel and comfort. But the trade off is minimal control. With tight tension strings, you get maximum control only.

CLOTHING: The days of heavy cotton fabrics are fading. They are being replaced with light-weight breathable, even sweat resistant fabrics. These performance based shirts will keep players cooler, especially during long matches in direct sunlight. Nowadays men wear longer shorts and tighter body hugging shirts. Marco Bitran: Tennis String Options and Information for the Summer Heat

Expert Author Eric Burke

Summer is by far my favorite time of the year. But for tennis strings summer is the worst time of the year. The hotter it is the quicker strings lose tension. As your strings become looser you have less control. Eventually you feel like you're hitting with a trampoline. Many shots you believe you have hit perfectly are out. I've always raised my tension as the temperature rises. For higher level players 2-3 pounds make a noticeable difference. But like everything else, string tension is a very individual choice. You may have to experiment a little before you find what works best for you.

There are strings that hold tension better than others. Polyester strings have become very popular in the U.S.

For the most part, they are very durable, spin enhancing, and control oriented. But they are notorious for how quickly they lose tension. The stiffer playing ones can also be pretty hard on the arm. I haven't found a poly string that holds tension for what I consider a long time. Here are a few that do better than most:

Genesis Black Magic is a softer playing polyester string with nice feel and power.

Genesis Twisted Razor is a sharp, 3-sided, twisted tennis string. Great spin enhancement.

Kirschbaum Spiky Shark is an 8-sided string that has a nice combination of feel, control, and spin enhancement.

For those of us who prefer strings with more feel, power, and comfort, durability can be an issue. That is not an issue with these strings:

Ashaway Mono Gut ZX is the string I play with when I'm not using natural gut. Along with great power and feel, Mono Gut ZX is very durable. The spin enhancement is a great bonus. There is no similar string available from any tennis string company.

Ashaway Dynamite is a rough textured multifilament. Great control and spin enhancement.

Gamma Live Wire XP is what I previously used when not playing with natural gut. Yes it's lively and powerful but what makes XP great is the Zyex outer wraps. Zyex gives XP a crisper more "gut like" feel. It also adds durability and helps with tension maintenance. (P.S. Zyex is the material used in Ashaway Mono Gut ZX and Dynamite)

Pro Supex Spiral Flex is a firmer but not stiff playing, solid core synthetic string. Good control and durability. This is a very nice string at a good price.

So although you may be a string breaking beast, there are plenty of durable strings available that won't break your arm. And ironically we just happen to have many of them at your friendly Hardcore Tennis store!

Eric Burke is the owner of Hardcore Tennis in Atlanta. He is Atlanta's 'go-to' guy for string and racquet expertise. He has played since childhood, Division I collegiate and has continued to play Southern & National tournaments.

• Safety - Of course, safety is always a priority. Since acrylic surfaces are non-glare and slip resistant, injuries such as slips and falls can be prevented.

• Extruded - This type of acrylic sheet undergoes a process wherein the liquid acrylic monomer is pressed on rollers to form sheets until it cools. The finished products are softer, can be easily scratched and may contain dirt and other impurities. However, extruded acrylic is more cost-effective and it is used by majority of industries.

Marco Bitran: Ultimate Guide In Building Synthetic Tennis Courts

Today, synthetic tennis courts are rising in popularity because of their durability, practicality and convenience.

For athletes and sports enthusiasts who want a low maintenance court without compromising performance level, a synthetic court may be right for you - they can stand unpredictable weather and they can be used all-year round.

Sports, such as tennis, are usually played on natural grass, clay, and carpet surfaces. However, these courts are less preferred these days because they require high maintenance routines that are quite costly. Thus, tennis players go for synthetic playing surfaces to be able to enjoy their hobby without having to worry about the upkeeps.

Steps in Building Synthetic Tennis Courts

If you are fond of do-it-yourself activities, then tennis courts construction would not be a problem for you.

Having your very own synthetic tennis court will give you the opportunity to have fun with your family and friends, without the agony of high maintenance costs. Now, if you want to build your synthetic playing surface yourself, then the following steps can help you:

1. Plan and determine a strategic location. A standard tennis court measures 78-foot by 36-foot rectangle, which is big enough for singles and doubles games. So you should choose a huge, open location to make sure that your synthetic court can be accommodated.

2. Get rid of the old lawn by shoveling the grass, including 1 to 2 inches of top soil, then even the surface using a rake.

3. Spray the whole area with weed and grass killer to prevent unnecessary weeds from growing in your synthetic turf. And to add protection from unwanted plant and weed growth, you can cover the court surface with ground cloth, but be sure that it has the right measurements.

4. Scoop about 2 inches of fill dirt to the tennis court surface and smoothen it with a rake.

5. Place the synthetic turf securely. Some turfs come in large rolls while others are pre-cut into squares. Make sure that the entire court will be covered by the fake grass.

6. Pour the filler sand evenly from corner to corner of the court surface. You can then use a push broom to even the sand and rumple the synthetic turf.

7. Install your tennis net, which may be a portable tennis net system or a permanent one.

8. Invite your friends over to play a game of tennis and have fun!

Get Professional Help

Now, if you are not so skilful when it comes to installing structures, then it is best to ask for professional help from a reputable company. Look for a company that are knowledgeable and experienced with synthetic lawns, from planning to installation and their services and products are of high quality and worth every cent.

Marco Bitran: Tennis Acrylic Surfaces: How The Quality Of The Court Affects The Game

If you are an athlete or a regular sports enthusiast, then you can probably attest that the quality of a sports surface has a major impact on a game. This is true for most sports, including tennis. But for those who are not sports-oriented, the idea of a tennis court may just include a rectangular surface with specific measurements, a net and then you are good to go. However, whether you are using natural grass courts, tennis acrylic surfaces or synthetic tennis courts, one should also consider the materials being used and the properties of the court because the efficiency and quality of the tennis surface can affect the overall game.

Types of Tennis Courts

There are a lot of expert builders that can design and construct playing surfaces according to your needs. And with the advanced technology today, you can choose from different types of courts. Here are just some of them:

• Grass - These are the fastest type of tennis courts to install and they are made from natural grass that is evened out. The surface is more slippery than hard courts, causing the ball to slide instead of bounce. The bounce of the ball and the outcome of the game will sometimes depend on how often the grass is mowed. So grass courts are quite expensive to maintain, which includes frequent watering and mowing. And besides, these days owners prefer courts made from fake lawn or artificial turf because they are more practical and cost-effective.

• Clay - These courts are usually made from crushed shale or brick, plus rubber and plastics. They are cheaper to construct but the most costly when it comes to maintenance considering the surface is smooth and steady, which needs regular rolling. Clay courts produce high but slow ball bounce, favoring defensive players from the baseline.

• Acrylic or Hard - These courts are the most commonly used for tennis, which are made from concrete, asphalt or plastic. Tennis acrylic surfaces are gives slower performance of players than in grass tennis courts but they are faster compared to the clay ones. The bounce of the ball is more predictable and consistent, making the games more even-handed and fun. You do not even have to worry about regular up-keeps because all you need is a broom or blower to keep these synthetic playing surfaces clean.

Who Can Build Tennis Acrylic Surfaces?

There are numerous tennis court builders out there but you cannot determine the quality of each product. So, you need to look for a company who has the knowledge and skills in tennis court construction. Look for a company that has many years of experience when it comes to tennis acrylic surfaces, artificial turf and other synthetic grass products that you need.

  • Pail (5-gallon)
  • Bleach
  • Water
  • Rag
  • Gloves
  • Cup or small pail
2. When all the needed materials are ready, prepare the tennis court for cleaning. Set aside all objects that can interfere with the clean-up such as benches, balls, trash cans, chairs, and other fixtures. Also, remove rocks, leaves, twigs and other trash and debris using a leaf blower or a push broom. Start at the centre directing the debris to the outer edges.

3. Treat the court with detergent-and-water solution and sprinkle the entire area using a hose. Scrub the surface with a push broom but do not scrub too hard to prevent damage to the synthetic turf. If you want to use a brush, then utilize a soft-bristled one. Rinse the surface. Tip: It is best to do this procedure one side at a time for easier cleaning.

4. Allow the area to dry.

5. Assess the court for areas that have mold, mildew and other impurities.

6. To remove mold or mildew, if any, use a 5-gallon pail and mix water and bleach. Use 2 parts water to 1 part bleach and apply the solution to the affected regions. Wear gloves to avoid irritation to your hands. By means of a cup or smaller pail, scoop out enough solution and pour over mildewed part and gently scrub the surface with the push broom. Rinse the court using the hose and repeat this procedure until all the mildew comes off.

The industry nowadays manufactures more durable and very useful products for the purpose of a long-lasting performance. Fake lawns are low in maintenance and have the capability to support the needs of individuals who eagerly want to have instant lawns in their homes, pools, tennis courts, among others. Marco Bitran: Tennis Strings

Everyone who plays tennis, both pros and me, your weekend warrior, understands that we all need different string preferences. Stringing is an individual choice, where some players like resilience in their strings, thus giving them more snap back on ball impact. Modern resiliency in tennis strings is the use of natural gut material, made from beef intestines. Increased durability in tennis strings gives players less elastic and resilience, but they have a thicker gauge and are abrasion resistant. If you blow through these two types of strings, then you are left with the Kevlar hybrids which are the superman of racquets. Tennis string gauges range from thickest (15) to thinnest (19), with half-gauges identified by an L, which stands for Light. Thinner strings gives us more spin by allowing the strings to embed or meet the ball more often.

• Natural Gut: this type of string is great for all players, even though it is costly. It was once the top choice for ATP and WTA players, but now it is used more as a hybrid, with a combination of polyester. Natural gut gives us a feeling of control and a better sense of ball grab for a better top spin.

• Nylon: Nylon is the "synthetic" gut for tennis racquets. Modern nylon for tennis strings is a higher grade than basic nylon. I, like nearly 98% of other non-professional tennis players, uses nylon strings.

• Polyester: Polyester provides better durability, which is why many pros today like its features. Polyester is also combined with natural gut or softer synthetics. This material is easier to string. It is also better used by pros, rather than amateur tennis players, like me, because it makes you use your arm power a lot.

• Kevlar: Wow, Kevlar gives tennis players an extremely strong, stiff string. In order to reduce its stiffness, it is often married with nylon. Kevlar is also not recommended for casual tennis players or beginners.

An example is that Novak Djokovic, the No. 1 tennis player in the world, has a very dense string patter to match his flatter and counter punching hitting style. He likes his racquets strung extremely tight. On the other hand, Roger Federer No. 2 tennis player in the world, enjoys a very heavy strung racquet, with a thin beam, sharp edges, and a small head, which is not very popular with other players.

I love tennis and it is a budget-friendly game, until it comes to the strings. This is why it is best to invest in a stringing machine, either used or new. Stringing machines, involves:

• mounting the racquet;

• pulling the strings; and

• clamping the string to hold tension.

Stringing your tennis racquets properly is what gives you power and control. You can choose between a tabletop or a floor model stringing machine. Upright models cost around $200 more than a tabletop. After this decision, you must choose between tensioners, which includes a drop weight, spring and electronic:

• Drop Weight: this machine is designed with a rod and a movable weight. Price ranges from $200 to $500+.

• Spring Tension: to use a spring tension, you must adjust your desired weight with the help of a screw, then turn the crank until a pointer shows you the desired weight. Price ranges from $135 to $3400+.

• Electronic: this type of machine is used on site at tennis tournaments. It uses an LCD display screen which is connected with the motor to give you an instant accurate tension. Electronic stringing machines do all the work for you because its tension feature is set electronically by pressing a button on the machine. Price ranges from $1,000 to $6,000.

These machines brand new are worth your investment, as are many used stringing machines in the same categories. Simply keep them lubricated, tightened, and adjusted, so that they can increase its lifetime.

Marco Bitran: What Are the Benefits of Tennis Ball Machines?

The sport of tennis requires many physical and mental attributes to be sharp and concise in order to achieve success. Some of these traits include timing, speed, flexibility and a quick mind. There are many tools a player can use to improve these skills including tennis ball machines.

Tennis ball machines have been around since the 1920's when a French tennis player, Rene LaCoste, developed a hand-cranked version. From that first version to today's versions which now are programmable and include multiple settings for speed, distance, spin and more, the purpose of the machines are still the same, improve a tennis player's ability.

How can a tennis ball machine do so? Here are a couple of area's where they can contribute.

1. Time - To mimic taking and returning a tennis shot would mean you need someone hitting tennis balls to you. To accomplish that you must schedule the time that is not only convenient to you but to your hitting partner as well. A tennis ball machine eliminates the need for a ball hitting partner. Your schedule becomes the only factor in the equation and you don't have to buy it lunch.

2. Practice specific shots - While a hitting partner can certainly do just that, if their skill level is not excellent you may have a number of the balls hit the net, go long, go short, be right, be left, etcetera. How could you consistently practice a particular shot if the ball is coming at you at all angles and speed? You can't and once again the ball machine provides an advantage by sending consistent shots at specific distances and spins to allow for repetitive shots. Repetition is what you need to master a particular shot.

3. Your overall game - While you practice a number of specific shots you are in essence improving your overall game as well. If you only practiced one shot and mastered just that one you certainly would be limiting your game but with the precise nature a machine can deliver balls the amount of shots you can master is increased many times over.

4. The number of balls - How many tennis balls can you fit in your pockets? Four? Six? That is about what your hitting partners limit will be as well. Ball machines can hold anywhere from 50 - 300 balls so it's easy to see how not having to regularly stop your training to pick up balls would have a positive impact on your game.

There are numerous makes and models on the market today including Playmate tennis ball machines, Lobster and Sports Tudor ball machines so your choices are many but remember the ball machine won't play your game, only you can and you get out of it what you put into it. Like any tool it only works as well as the person using it masters it.

Marco Bitran: Shopping For Your Ideal Tennis Racket

It's not easy to select a tennis racket, particularly if you're new to the sport. The huge selection of rackets on the market certainly doesn't make it any easier! Getting a racket that matches your game, not to mention one you feel comfortable with, is vital to let you find your very best form.

To get the best match, you need to know what you should be looking for. This article will look at the main points to consider.

The grip is an oft forgotten element which can have a huge impact, with everything from ball striking to the likelihood of suffering injuries affected by the grip you select.

Comfort ought to be the biggest thing to look for, as you can make modifications later to get it perfect. A grip handle or over grip will help you make any modifications to turn it in to something you're truly comfortable using.

The first step to find the best grip is to simply hold the racket as you normally would. When holding the racket there must be around a 1-1.5 cm gap between the grip and your hand. When you are able do this, you've found the right size.

When viewing head sizes you'll encounter midsize, mid-plus, oversize and super oversize. The bigger head sizes will, obviously, have a bigger strike zone. The larger the strike zone, the simpler it is to hit big shots.

Most of the time the bigger head sizes tend to be more suited to those just learning the sport. Smaller, lighter head sizes allow more knowledgeable players a bit more freedom when hitting their shots. The fractions of a second a lighter racket helps you to save can make a big difference against better players.

The weight in the head, combined with the weight in the grip, will determine the balance of the racket. To test the weight of the racket, do this. Sit the racket on your open palm, sliding it along until it sits level. If the hand is close to the grip you've got a light head, or if your hand is close to the head you've got a heavier racket head.

If you want power, consider using a heavier racket. If you are seeking something simple to maneuver, go light. Heavier rackets are fantastic for those who keep to the baseline. Go light if you'd prefer to rush the net.

Your build should also play a part when deciding on a weight. The elbow and wrist can be strained when employing a heavier racket, while lighter rackets are generally easier on the joints. Consider a heavier racket if you believe you'll find it difficult to generate sufficient power on your own.

There's plenty out there, so take the time researching tennis rackets online prior to making your final purchase. This can also help you find a great deal on perfect racket.

If you are a tennis player, getting the right tension is important in your performance. The tennis rackets string usually all come down to the player's preference in its tension. If you are new in selecting the tension of these rackets, here are some guide on how to do that.

There are tension ranges that are provided by the tennis racket manufacturer and to check for the tension, have a look at the throat of the tennis racket. There is a number at the bottom that describes the tension in your racket. If you are unsure on what tension you tennis rackets should have, it is always recommended choosing the average tension that rackets can provide. With that in mind, you can increase or decrease the tension until you have discovered the one that is right for you. All rackets have recommended tensions which are usually in the 50 to 60 pound range.

However, at the end of selecting a tension, it all depends on you. If you lower the tension you have an increase ball power, if you increase the tension, you will have increased control. If you are a power-type player you will definitely benefit from lower tensions, and if you prefer control over power, you will benefit from higher tension. Experienced players will definitely benefit from better control than power and if power is your choice, you can beat opponents through the speed of your ball, but you will be able to control it well.

Tennis rackets tension is important so your racket do not look as if you are hitting using a board or brick wall. This is usually experience when using a really high tension rackets because it causes the ball to flatten out thus allow the strings to bite the ball. This provides control. Players prefer tighter strings because it has adequate control but if you are a new tennis player, you will feel as if you are hitting with a board. If you have a lot of tennis rackets, you should consider having different tensions of the racket to adapt with certain conditions. Also, different rackets handle tensions differently.

So, if you have other rackets, there may be a chance that it will have a different feel even if both your rackets have equivalent tensions. Tennis rackets tension all matters with your personal preference. By trying out different tensions, you will get to know your own rackets tension. Just remember the rule of thumb when it comes to tensions. The higher the tension, the more control it has but lacks power, the lower the tension the more power it has but lacks control. These guidelines apply to most tennis players particularly if they are new in playing tennis.

However, if you are an absolute beginner, you won't like how higher tension works because it does not provide better control and a lower tension is not efficient as it may be too powerful for them to use. As a beginner, go for mid-range string tension to know the basics of tennis and find out what suits you best.

Marco Bitran: How To Choose The Right Tennis Racket

How do you select the best tennis racket for your game? You may be overwhelmed by the dizzying array of rackets available in your local tennis shop or sports equipment store. Well, as an avid tennis player who has spent hundreds of hours on the court, I've had many rackets and I've learned a thing or two along the way.

The right tennis racket won't turn a novice player into a pro, but it can really help to improve your game and to get the most out of your abilities.

I think the first place to start is with an honest assessment of your tennis game. Are you a beginner, intermediate or advanced player? If you play regularly, you probably have a pretty good idea of what your skill level is. Another thing that can be helpful is to get rated. Or just ask your tennis coach what level of player you are.

If you're a beginner player, you may want to go out and get the same racket as Novak Djokovic, because he's your favorite player and the racket looks cool. But since you don't have his level of skill (yet!) you're going to be playing with a racket that is not designed for your abilities at all and I promise you, you'll be frustrated. Conversely, the advanced club level player wouldn't be happy with a beginner's racket because it wouldn't give them the level of control they are looking for. So if you know where your game is, it will simplify things greatly for choosing the right racket.

And by the way, if you don't know anything about tennis ratings, you can learn all about them here:

One other thing to note about buying tennis rackets is that if you take up the game as a beginner and stick with it and get better and better, you're likely to go through a couple of rackets as your play improves. Once you get close to your full potential as a tennis player, it's less about getting help from your racket and more about tweaking your game so you'll probably change rackets less often.

Tennis rackets basically fall into three categories, roughly correlating with a player's skill level. Game improvement, or power rackets are designed for the beginner. They are intended to make up for the shortcomings that a beginner generally has in generating power and hitting the ball accurately. These rackets are longer, have larger heads and a larger sweet spot. They are also lighter, with more of the weight in the head of the racket to help generate power through a slower swing.

The next category of rackets is designed for the intermediate player, offering some game improvement features but also designed to exploit the higher skill level that this player has. Some people call these "tweener" rackets. In this category we see the heads getting a little smaller, the racket getting a little shorter, a little heavier and with a smaller sweet spot. The intermediate player hits the ball with more pace and more accurately than the beginner, so they need less help with power and a design that gives them more control over the higher-level shots they are making.

The third category is for the advanced player who hits the ball with a lot of pace, has very good directional control, and can execute all the various tennis shots with competence. These are often called players or control rackets. As you might have guessed by now, these rackets are generally smaller, heavier, and have a smaller sweet spot. The player at this level is mainly looking for the most amount of control for the advanced shots they are making.

So once you've determined your playing level, I recommend you try two or three rackets in the category that's appropriate for you. A sports equipment store that specializes in tennis or at least has people on the staff who play, should be able to guide you to rackets that are good for your game. And they should have some kind of try-out or loaner program. Because at this point, it's about feel and which racket you like the best and feel the most comfortable with. If you're not working with a store with a knowledgeable tennis staff and they don't let you try out rackets, then I recommend you go somewhere else.

I hope you've found this article helpful. Picking out a tennis racket doesn't have to be that hard. And don't forget to look for used or demo rackets too. You can save a lot of money that way. Keep practicing and have fun!
